For many IBS sufferers, wheat, in particular Gluten can be a very real problem. The issues around gluten have been expanded by the low FODMAP diet as it was the nature of the digestive difficulties which first alerted us to the possibilities that malabsorbtion can create issues beyond the obvious. FODMAPs in principle deal with the way in which malabsorbed carbohydrates effect us, and wheat is often at the forefront of this issue.
