Review

Throughout this website we support a multi dimensional approach to treating IBS.  It is rarely as simple as looking at one source of comfort.  This book therefore gave us a great deal of hope.

Written by a Doctor, Dietician and a Psychologist it offers a team approach to managing IBS.  This in itself suggests that the authors understand the condition far better than many of the books out there, which focus myopically on one subject.

So with a sense of hope and great deal of enthusiasm we plunged into this book to see if it lived up to the very promising reviews from Amazon.com readers.

IBS Relief

This book split our team down the middle.  So first we shall mention the good.  The multi dimensional approach this book brings is both welcome and generally very well executed.  It is an easy to read guide and ideal for the recently diagnosed.  In fact we would highly recommend it to new sufferers as a great jump off point.

The book makes some points in particular about fiber, a subject many sufferers have had issues with, and also makes excellent recommendations about stress.  It gives enough biological information to be useful without getting excessively complicated.  It is a great ‘first IBS’ book.

Those against felt that there were issues with some of the fibre advice in particular using insoluble wheat fibre as an IBS-d sufferer may have a very bad reaction to that.  By and large there would be nothing new hear from long term sufferers, which is disappointing.  Most of the long term sufferers we have encountered have researched or discovered much of the contents of this book already, they have also discovered that some of the advice within this book worsens their condition.

With that said, this is a very good book, and we would recommend it to recently diagnosed sufferers without hesitation, we would not offer the same endorsement to long term sufferers, even though it is refreshing to find all this information togther rather than separately as is usually the case.
