For the uninitiated we thought a brief description would be useful, so we have used this one from Wikipedia:
“The paleolithic diet (abbreviated paleo diet or paleodiet), also popularly referred to as the caveman diet, Stone Age diet and hunter-gatherer diet, is a modern nutritional plan based on the presumed ancient diet of wild plants and animals that various hominid species habitually consumed during the Paleolithic era—a period of about 2.5 million years which ended around 10,000 years ago with the development of agriculture and grain-based diets. In common usage, such terms as "paleolithic diet" also refer to the actual ancestral human diet.
Centered on commonly available modern foods, the contemporary "Paleolithic diet" consists mainly of fish, grass-fed pasture raised meats, eggs, vegetables, fruit, fungi, roots, and nuts, and excludes grains, legumes, dairy products, potatoes, refined salt, refined sugar, and processed oils.”
We hope this gives you enough of an idea about the diet before we proceed.

The key factor regarding this diet, relates to its claims regarding IBS. Does it work for digestive disorders ? The reviews of this book suggest that it does, and the buyers testimonials point to a vast array of successes. The Paleo diet also has a plethora of evangelical supporters, so we must be careful how we review this!
We must also state, that we have a Low FODMAP diet site, and that we do believe it to be the best diet for IBS. However, we undertook the Paleo diet with an open mind. The diet has had something a a bad reputation amongst nutritionist and there are highly conflicting reports about the diet so it was really great to actually try it.
So finally does it work ? The answer is sadly a yes and no. While it definitely assisted in many ways, and it would be a lie to say that I did not feel great for much of the diet, there are issues with some of the trigger foods for IBS, and in particular IBS-d. Whole foods may be an issues for IBS-d sufferers, however it may suit IBS-c sufferers. I was hoping to gain a definitive liking or disliking for the diet, however that was not the case. We would recommend that you try the diet and see for yourself, to which end this book is a wonderful resource.
